Condition
PTSD
When a frightening experience keeps intruding long after it has ended.
PTSD develops when the mind keeps responding to a past threat as though it were present. It is a normal system doing its job at the wrong time — not a character flaw.
Effective treatments exist, and you do not have to retell the whole story to begin. Care moves at a pace you set.
Signs people often notice
- Intrusive memories, flashbacks or nightmares
- Avoiding reminders of what happened
- Feeling constantly alert or easily startled
- Numbness or detachment from people around you
- Sleep disturbance
This list is descriptive, not diagnostic. Recognising yourself in it does not mean you have ptsd, and not recognising yourself does not mean you don't. Only a proper evaluation can tell you that.
