New Patients
What to expect
Nobody arrives at a first psychiatric appointment relaxed. Knowing what happens takes at least some of the edge off.
The appointment process
Request an appointment
Online at any hour, or by phone during office hours. You don't need a diagnosis to start, and a referral is only needed if your own insurance plan requires one.
Complete your forms
Intake paperwork is sent through the patient portal before your visit, so the appointment isn't spent on admin.
Your first visit
Longer than a routine appointment. Mostly conversation — your history, what's going on, and what you'd like to change.
Your plan
You leave with a plan you've agreed to and a follow-up booked. Not a prescription you didn't ask for.
What to bring
- Your insurance card and photo ID
- A list of any medications you take, including doses
- Names of previous providers, if you have them
- Any records or evaluations you'd like us to see
- Questions you don't want to forget to ask
Forms
Intake forms are issued through the patient portal ahead of your visit — they are not hosted on this website, and you should never email them to us.
If you have trouble with the portal, call 252-316-9145 and we'll sort it out.
Cancellation policy
We ask for at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment.
- Late cancellation: $50
- No-show, follow-up visit: $75
- No-show, new patient evaluation: $150
These fees are the patient's responsibility and cannot be billed to insurance. Repeated no-shows may lead to discharge from the practice, or to same-day scheduling only.
Appointment slots are held for you, and when one goes unused it usually can't be offered to someone else in time. As much notice as you can manage helps other patients get seen.
If something has gone badly wrong and you missed a visit because of it, tell us. That is not the kind of thing we penalise without asking.
