Condition

OCD

Unwanted thoughts and the rituals that build up to keep them quiet.

OCD is a loop: an intrusive thought creates distress, a ritual relieves it briefly, and the relief teaches the loop to repeat. The thoughts are unwanted and usually the opposite of what the person values.

It is frequently misunderstood as tidiness. It is not — and it is treatable with approaches designed specifically for it.

Signs people often notice

  • Intrusive thoughts that feel impossible to dismiss
  • Repeated checking, washing, counting or arranging
  • Needing things to feel 'just right'
  • Seeking reassurance again and again
  • Rituals that eat into your day

This list is descriptive, not diagnostic. Recognising yourself in it does not mean you have ocd, and not recognising yourself does not mean you don't. Only a proper evaluation can tell you that.
