Condition

Insomnia

Trouble falling or staying asleep that persists once the stress has passed.

Insomnia often begins with something specific and then outlives it, because the effort of trying to sleep becomes its own obstacle.

It is rarely just about sleep. It intertwines with anxiety, depression and pain, and treating it usually means treating the whole picture.

Signs people often notice

  • Lying awake for long stretches
  • Waking repeatedly or too early
  • Dreading bedtime
  • Daytime fatigue and irritability
  • Relying on something to fall asleep

This list is descriptive, not diagnostic. Recognising yourself in it does not mean you have insomnia, and not recognising yourself does not mean you don't. Only a proper evaluation can tell you that.
