Condition
Depression
More than low mood — a persistent flattening of energy, interest and sleep.
Depression is not sadness and it is not weakness. It is a condition that changes sleep, appetite, concentration and the ability to feel interest in things that used to matter.
It responds to treatment. The hardest part is often the first step, precisely because depression makes taking steps feel impossible.
Signs people often notice
- Low mood most of the day, most days
- Loss of interest in things you used to enjoy
- Changes in sleep or appetite
- Fatigue that rest doesn't fix
- Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
- Feelings of worthlessness or guilt
This list is descriptive, not diagnostic. Recognising yourself in it does not mean you have depression, and not recognising yourself does not mean you don't. Only a proper evaluation can tell you that.
